Program

Rumah Berkelanjutan implements strategic initiatives designed to bolster sustainable development. We maintain a rigorous focus on ensuring that our efforts effectively integrate environmental conservation, social justice, and economic sustainability.

Approach

Rumah Berkelanjutan adopts an adaptive operational framework, utilizing various tactical approaches to ensure program efficacy. Depending on the unique landscape of each project, we deploy the following methodologies:

Research and Knowledge Dissemination

Research and knowledge dissemination are important strategies for improving stakeholders’ and the public’s understanding of sustainable development, climate resilience, and other cross-cutting issues. Rumah Berkelanjutan collaboratively conducts research, studies, analyses, and disseminates knowledge to stakeholders.

Policy Dialogue and Campaign

Campaign and policy dialogue are efforts to build collaboration with policymakers (at the local, national, and international levels) in order to produce better, more inclusive public policies that support efforts to strengthen sustainable development and climate resilience. The campaign aims to raise public and stakeholder awareness of sustainability.

Strengthening the Capacity of Stakeholders

Capacity building is provided to all parties in order to improve understanding, knowledge, and expertise in strengthening sustainable development, climate adaptation and mitigation, sustainable forestry, and other cross-cutting issues.

Community Empowerment

At the grassroots level, community empowerment efforts are an important aspect that cannot be neglected. Community empowerment is an effort to enable communities to become empowered, have the strength and ability to improve their lives and communities, and be able to adapt to changes, including increasing climate resilience at the community level, strengthening communities involved in Social Forestry, and empowering communities in the management of sustainable commodities such as palm oil, coffee, cocoa, rubber, sugar cane, etc.

Ecosystem Restoration

Rumah Berkelanjutan, in collaboration with the government and other parties, participates in ecosystem restoration in various types of ecosystems and forest areas (including peatlands and mangrove forests on the coast), to strengthen and restore ecological functions, protect biodiversity, improve the livelihoods of local communities through agroforestry approaches, and mitigate land-based climate change. In carrying out restoration, we work closely with the relevant government agencies.

Gender Mainstreaming and Disasters Preparedness

In implementing programs at the field level, Rumah Berkelanjutan uses strategies to mainstream a number of important approaches, namely:

1. Mainstreaming Transformative Gender.

2. Mainstreaming Disaster Preparedness.

Strategic Program

Recognizing the vast complexity of the sustainable development landscape, Rumah Berkelanjutan develops specialized, sector-based programs. We focus on four strategic pillars: climate resilience, forest and biodiversity conservation, sustainable food and commodity governance, and inclusive sustainability.

Climate Resilience

The climate resilience program is one of Rumah Berkelanjutan’s strategic programs to collaboratively strengthen climate change adaptation and mitigation, contributing to achieving the 2035 NDC and the 2060 NZE. The climate resilience program focuses on several sub-programs:

1. Low Carbon Development

2. Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Actions

3. Climate Finance

Forests and Biodiversity

The Forest and Biodiversity Conservation Program seeks to collaborate to improve sustainable forest management and community access to the forest. Biodiversity conservation, both in conservation areas and coastal and marine areas, is an important aspect that must be strengthened. This program focuses on several sub-programs:

1. Sustainable Forest Management

2. Social Forestry (Perhutanan Sosial)

3. Biodiversity Conservation

Food and Commodities

The Sustainable Commodities Program is part of Rumah Berkelanjutan’s commitment to supporting government and community efforts to strengthen local food resilience and ensure a supply chain that does not contribute to deforestation. This program will focus on the following sub-programs:

1. Sustainable Food Governance

2. Sustainable Commodities: palm oil, coffee, cocoa, rubber, coconut, etc.

Inclusive Sustainability

Inclusive sustainability emphasizes that sustainability can only be achieved by strengthening inclusive societies, rooted in accountable governance and public engagement. We treat the reduction of poverty and inequality as prerequisites for progress, aligning these social mandates with our targets for forest conservation, resilient ecosystems, and sustainable food systems.

SDGs Contributions

Our program contributes directly and indirectly to the achievement of a number of sustainable development goals (SDGs), as shown in the image below.

Our Partners

Rumah Berkelanjutan builds strategic partnerships with central and local governments to strengthen climate resilience, sustainable forestry, and food security, and to advance a just energy transition. We are committed to supporting the government in developing public policies and budgets that promote sustainability.

The private sector is one of our strategic partners, particularly in strengthening corporate commitment to meeting sustainability standards and practices throughout the supply chain.

Civil society organizations are pillars of democracy and social change. Civil society organizations exist to strengthen one another in the development process and fill gaps that neither the state nor the market can. We build partnerships with local, national, and global civil society organizations.

International institutions are our strategic partners in strengthening the implementation of our programs. Partnerships at the global level are crucial because our climate resilience programs require broader cooperation in terms of commitment, policy, funding, and action at the local level.

Universities and research institutions are our strategic partners in advancing science through various research projects, studies, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge to improve public policy and best practices in the field.
